What happens to the addresses you submit

The address you type is used to run the analysis and nothing else. While a run is in progress, its state is written to a temporary file on the server so the work can continue across the automatic refreshes. That file is deleted when the run ends, and automatically removed after two hours if the run is abandoned. No report is archived, no list of analysed sites is kept, and nothing is passed to a third party.

One technical exception is worth stating plainly: to apply the limit of 80 analyses per 24 hours, the site records the IP address of each run together with a timestamp. Those records are deleted automatically once they are more than 24 hours old, and they are never used for anything other than counting.

As on any hosting, the server keeps standard access logs containing an IP address, a date, the page requested and the browser used. They serve only for diagnosis in the event of a fault or abuse.

Cookies placed on this site

The site sets a single cookie of its own, named w3c_sid. It holds a random identifier that links the automatic refreshes of an analysis to your browser, so that nobody else can see or interrupt your run, even someone sharing your internet connection. It contains no personal information, is deleted when you close your browser and is used for nothing else. We set no cookie for tracking or identification. Two third party services do place cookies.

Audience measurement

Google Analytics reports how many visits the site receives, which pages are read and where the traffic comes from, in aggregate. These statistics tell us which pages deserve to be developed. We consult no individual data and make no attempt to identify a visitor.

Advertising

The site is funded by advertising served through Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies to deliver advertisements, measure their performance and limit how often the same advertisement is shown. Depending on your settings, those advertisements may be personalised using your previous visits to this site and to other sites.

You can review or switch off ad personalisation at any time from your Google account settings at myadcenter.google.com. How Google uses cookies in advertising is documented at policies.google.com. Refusing personalisation does not remove the advertisements, it only makes them less relevant.

Your choices

Whether cookies are stored depends first on your browser, which can accept them, refuse them globally, or sort them by sender. The help menu of your browser explains how, and the procedure differs from one to another. A global refusal degrades many sites. Here, the validator needs its own session cookie to follow an analysis from one refresh to the next, so allow cookies for this site if you want to run one.

Ad blocking extensions exist too. We would rather you did not use one here, since advertising pays for the hosting and the time spent on this site, but the choice is obviously yours.

Your rights

Under the General Data Protection Regulation you have a right of access, rectification, erasure and objection concerning data about you. Given how the site works, we hold in practice nothing that identifies you beyond the temporary records described above. For any request, write to contact@1avance.com or use the contact page.

The terms governing the use of the service are set out on the terms of use page.
